Domestic Workers Receive ILO Labor Standard Rights
For the first time in international labor, now tens of millions of domestic workers will have international standard working rights, which has been adopted by nations throughout the world. The 100th International Labor Conference on domestic workers approved a new Convention for Domestic Workers.Historically, domestic workers have been widely denied fair working standards, and as women and young girls, have been put in positions of domestic abuse,working as servants. This will now be changed, these domestic workers who care for families and households, will under the new Convention standards will be given the same basic labor rights as other workers such as:
a.Reasonable hours of work
b.Weekly rest of up to 24 consecutive hours
c.Clear information on terms and conditons of employment
d.Repect for freedom of association,and right to collective bargaining
e.Limit of "in kind payment"
The Convention states, "Domestic workers have often been migrants or members of disadvantaged communites who are particularly vulnerable to discrimination in respect of employment and to other abuses of human rights".The U.K. was one of eight countries to abstain for voting for this convention along wiith Sudan, Malaysia, El Salvador, Panama, Singapore, Czech Republic and Thailand. Visit the The Thirteenth Amendment Working Today The Thirteenth amendment of our U.S. Constituion can still continue to abolish slavery today as it is regarded as compelling law which overides any commercial or economic interests. The Supreme Court has ruled that whatever forms slavery can take, they are unconstitutional under the Thirteenth amendment.The court has already ruled that any form of labor that includes a person who is controlled through violence or it's threat,who cannot walk away, or choose to change their employers is slavery. The Thirteenth amendment forbids any U.S. company to engage directly in any commerce that supports slavery .This rule applies to businesses operating outside the U.S. also.
The U.S. government estimates 17,500 victims of trafficking occur each year. These figures are reported by the government to be well below the actual real numbers.
The U.S. state Department reports that 80% of those trafficked are women and at least 50% of them children.

UN States 140,000 Trafficked Persons are in EuropeThe UN Office on Drugs and Crime states that trafficking is a 37 billion euro industry with 3 billion exchanged in Europe. The UN executive director on Drugs and Crime,Yury Fedotov, stated it is difficult to prosecute this activity due to it's cross border nature.Fedotov stated at any time there are 2.5 million persons being trafficked in the world annually.CNN is dedicating this year to the Freedom Project which will be concerned with educating the populace of human trafficking and its multiple causes and effects. Human trafficking has increased rapidly with globalization. Rayond Baker from Global Financial Integrity stated in his, Capitalism's Achilles Heel, that there are as many as 75,000 Brazilian women trafficked into Europe who are forced into prostitution.He stated women from Colombia are trafficked along drug paths leading all around the world.Baker states young girls are trafficked across borders,and having often been bought cheap, are sold to brothels for a much higher price.Profits from trafficking are mostly placed in offshore secret accounts. Paris Anti-Slavery OverviewWhat is Paris Anti-Slavery Group Paris Anti-Slavery Group is an english speaking, Paris based branch of Anti-Slavery International based in London. We also support and are committed to the principles and actions of the locally based French anti-slavery organization, Comite Contre L'Esclavage Moderne. Our group began with an anti-slavery forum held at the American Church in Paris on April 15th,2009. We are dedicated to the same principles as Anti-Slavery International and direct all further inquiries of donations to that organization along with Comite Contre L'Esclavage Moderne. Our group will work with Comite Contre L'Esclavage in providing the opportunity to hear speakers,view films and provide discussions which will enhance our understanding of modern forms of bondage in the world. We will offer daily news reports of modern bondage issues on our web site as well as a list of current events concerning this issue in Paris. We will keep our community informed of our next meetings as well as reviews of our past events.
